Manchin contemplates rejoining Democrat Party in order to challenge Harris

Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) is reportedly exploring rejoining the Democrat Party in order to challenge Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democrat nomination.

Manchin left the Democrat Party in May after briefly considering a primary challenge against President Joe Biden. That challenge ultimately never materialized but with Biden bowing out, Manchin has been vindicated and could make his return to knock Harris out.

The senator has been on a crusade against Biden for months and just days before he exited the race, Manchin was among the list of lawmakers calling on him to do so.

On Sunday, Manchin told CNN, "I came to the decision with a heavy heart that I think it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation. I want him to be the president in the last five months of this presidency of his term, to do what he can do is unite our country, to calm down the rhetoric and be able to focus attention to peace in the world."

Furthermore, it looks like Manchin isn't interested in going with Harris by default as he went on to tell CNN, "I think that we have a lot of talent on the bench, a lot of good people."

Now it is entirely possible that Manchin may go ahead and rejoin and throw his name in the ring. He understands how terrible a candidate Harris is and that if Democrats want a chance in November, they need to have an open convention.
