64% of Republican New Yorkers support Trump as nominee

Sixty-four percent of New York Republicans say they want former President Donald Trump to be the GOP nominee in 2024, according to a new Siena Research survey.

The poll asked Republicans, “If the 2024 Republican primary for president was held today, who would you vote for: Donald Trump, or someone else?”

Only 27% said someone else, and 8% were unsure.

When asked to name another candidate specifically, 24% of those who had said someone else named Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 17% said Vivek Ramaswamy, and other candidates were in the single digits.

The poll showed Biden getting 47% of the overall vote in 2024, with Trump getting 34%. New York is a strong Democrat state where Republican candidates rarely win.

Net favorability of state and federal officials was negative for all listed, with Biden at -4%, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) at -6%, New York City Mayor Eric Adams at -8%, and Trump at -19%.
