Crenshaw almost didn't vote for GOP immigration bill

The House GOP border bill does a lot of good things to make the border more secure, but one Republican lawmaker was balking at the bill because he thought it left out something very important.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), a former Navy Seal injured in Afghanistan, said he might not vote for the bill because it doesn't address the problem of drug cartels on the border and attempt to do more to crack down on them.

The bill had several other GOP opponents, including Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who doesn't think the federal government should use e-Verify, which is part of the bill.

When the bill came up for a vote on Thursday just as Title 42 was being lifted, however, he did join most in his party to vote for it, with Massie and Rep. John Duarte (R-CA) being the only ones who voted against it.

The narrow majority gives the bill no chance of passing the Senate or overcoming a presidential veto, but it still makes sense to try and to show what Republicans want to do if they would be given the power to do so.

As Title 42 is lifted, conditions on the border are expected to get a lot worse as eager migrants swarm the border to gain entry.
