22 Democrats flip to 'no' on Trump's pick to head Transportation Department
Former Rep. Sean Duffy, a Republican from Wisconsin, saw his nomination advanc on the Senate floor on Jan. 27 by a unanimous vote of 97-0.
By Jan. 28, however, 21 Democrats plus Independent Bernie Sanders had flipped to a "no" vote on Duffy.
The vote might not have had much to do with Duffy personally, however. The liberals were fighting against Donald Trump's recent announcement that he would pause large swaths of federal funding, which the Democrats said would plunge the country into chaos.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut explained that Trump's recent budget memo was exactly why he flipped to no on Duffy.
"It’s already causing chaos and confusion," Blumenthal said. "The president’s freezing funds for essential and urgent programs that are the responsibility of the Department of Transportation, and we need to hear from Sean Duffy how he’s going to oppose it."
This is another sad example of the way in which liberals are more concerned with playing politics instead of doing what's right for this country!
Still, Duffy was confirmed in a 77-22 vote.
